Golf Party rules

Play Golf Party

Golf Party is only in Brazilian Portuguese for now. English will come later, no date set.

These are the Golf Party rules, in the order a match unfolds. For a short version, see how to play.

The room

  • Whoever creates the room gets a 4-letter code and a link to send to friends.
  • A room holds up to 4 players. Anyone arriving later sees “room full”.
  • The room owner is whoever created it. Only the owner can start the match. If the owner leaves, the next person in the list takes over.
  • You can join only in the lobby. Once the match starts, the room closes to new players.
  • Two people cannot have the same ball color in a room. Whoever joins with a color already taken gets the first free one and can change it in the lobby.
  • There is no sign-up: you play as a guest, with a nickname of 2 to 16 characters. The nickname and color are saved on your device.

The match

A match is a course of 6 holes, played one after the other. Everyone plays the same hole at the same time. Every hole has a short intro, the play and a hole scoreboard. At the end, the podium and everyone’s total show up, and the room goes back to the lobby to play again.

Balls do not collide with each other.

The course: Turquoise Island

Six holes on a tropical island, in order of difficulty:

  1. Beach (Praia): a wide straight on the sand, to learn to swing.
  2. Pier (Píer): a wooden walkway over the water, with a bend.
  3. Dunes (Dunas): sand ripples that ask for just the right power.
  4. Palm grove (Coqueiral): a safe path along the edge or a narrow shortcut between the rocks.
  5. Lagoon (Lagoa): a narrow bridge over the water, where falling in costs a lot.
  6. Lighthouse (Farol): a spiral ramp up to the top of the hill.

Nothing moves in this version: the challenge comes from the layout, the water and the terrain.

Hole limits

Every hole has a stroke limit and a time limit. The hole ends when everyone sinks the ball, when the limit is reached or when time runs out. Whoever did not finish gets the hole’s maximum score, always worse than finishing within the limit. In the last few seconds the clock turns coral for everyone.

Out of bounds

  • Water or off the map: the ball goes back to the last spot where it came to rest, and you take a +1 stroke penalty, which counts toward the limit.
  • Stuck ball, resting somewhere that is not grass (like the top of a rock): press R and the ball goes back to the last valid spot, also with +1 stroke.

Scoring

Whoever adds up the fewest strokes over the course wins. A tie shares the place. Each hole shows the result against par, with the golf name for it:

ResultAgainst par
Hole in oneSunk on the first stroke
Eagle2 strokes under
Birdie1 stroke under
ParEqual to par
Bogey1 stroke over
Double bogey2 strokes over

Past that, the scoreboard just shows “+N”.

If you drop out

If your tab closes or your connection drops, you have some time to come back through the same link. The game keeps your place, your strokes and the scoreboard, and you rejoin on the hole the room is playing. After that time, you leave the room and get the maximum score on the holes you missed.
